When I viewed this clip of the Daily Show I couldn't understand if it was real or if it was a stunt. It is very real. These are the people that made the decision to ban Mexican American (Ethnic Studies) in the Tucson Unified School District.
I find it humorous and heartbreaking to know that someone actually thinks that feeding burritos to Mexican American children is anti-white when that statement in and of itself is racist. Mr. Hicks also attempts to explain slavery to Al Madrigal and fails terribly by attempting to talk about Rosa Parks and instead calls her Rosa "Clark". Not choosing to go into the classroom to sit in on the curriculum before eradicating a program that turned over a 98% graduation rate is beyond me.
What is in the political climate in Arizona that allows this to happen? How do school board members, like Michael Hicks, determine the course of public education? They are not educated enough to articulate the basic facts about American History, but they are the ones who determine what your children can and cannot learn. Something must be done.
