One Small Step

This weekend we took my son to observe the moon alongside astronomers who had a wealth of knowledge to share with viewers.  They allowed us to look through their telescopes and pointed at each of the stars, moons, and planets we were observing.  My son had questions and the San Antonio League of Sidewalk Astronomers were a tremendous help for curious young minds.

I too was asked to look into the telescope to observe the moon.  There was this feeling of complete connection to what I was seeing and a total sense of nothingness.  In this huge world I am a tiny fragment of the universe.  It was so magical it brought me to tears.  I never would have imagined that viewing the moon through a lens would make me feel that way.

Mrs. Nina allowed me to take a photograph and my life will never be the same again.  My son was in awe of Saturn, his rings, and his moons.  We almost saw Titan but Saturn quickly made its way out of view a few times.

We got home and I downloaded some worksheets to help my son retain the information.  What a magical night.  Enjoy my photo of our beautiful moon.  It's beyond words.
