You

I want to fill in the space that you

purposefully leave empty

In familiar territory we bend,

we break and we quiet

Guilty takes my place

The instructions for Day 2 of the 30 Day Poetry Challenge for National Poetry Month 2012 is to write a 5-line poem to the last person you sent a text message.

Ballerina

I stood in her light,

C          o          n
             t          or              t
e          d

Brought to the forefront by panic in the distance

Conceding of every accented subliminal
inner          space

I traced her neck with the tip of my tongue
Her face toward mine, her back arched
In numbers I dared not quantify

Our arms medallions of supremacy one onto the other

Barefoot by way of treason against a boulder of lies
She placed her begging on tables as offerings
Too grand to subdue her place at the

head

My mouth took graceful shape at the beckoning
Her hands in surrender to pulsating gravity
Fashioned out of hungry thighs and eyes
Our toes, a visible pirouette betrayed by foreign garments
